River Flats Run 2018

Students and Families prepare for the Sixth Annual River Flats Run
This is the image for the news article titled Students and Families prepare for the Sixth Annual River Flats RunThe River Flats Run started in 2013, originally scheduled in June. The purpose was to invite students and staff from the schools of Medicine Hat to come down to the flats and see the beauty that the neighbourhood had to offer. Just before the run, the devastating flood flowed through Medicine Hat.  A neighbourhood that was torn apart by nature was brought together through the resiliency of the community inside. The run was rescheduled for early October 2013 and transformed into something more meaningful and powerful than ever anticipated.

Close to 1000 runners attended; emotions ran high as many houses on the route had been badly damaged by the flood waters just months earlier.  Organizers at Elm Street School stood proud because inside the devastation was remarkable beauty and an impenetrable community spirit. Volunteers came to support the event in masses, with donations for the Medicine Hat Food Bank in hand and ready for fun.
