Medicine Hat, Alberta (December 16, 2024): The Board of Trustees with the Medicine Hat Public School Division is proud to announce the appointment of Tracy Hensel as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective January 1, 2025.

Serving as acting superintendent for the past six months, Hensel demonstrated effective leadership and a profound commitment to student success. 

"We are delighted to officially appoint Tracy Hensel as our Superintendent," said Catherine Wilson, Chair of the Medicine Hat Public Board of Education. To identify the ideal candidate for the Superintendent position, the Board of Trustees conducted a comprehensive consultation process with eight stakeholder groups. 

“Tracy demonstrates remarkable communication skills; her keen ability to forge and foster positive relationships has been instrumental in advancing the Division’s universal goals. Her collaborative leadership approach along with her commitment to equity, inclusion and student success align perfectly with the vision for the Division,” remarked Wilson.  

Tracy is committed to promoting a culture of growth and advocates for welcoming, caring and safe learning environments.

"Tracy's extensive experience as an educator and knowledge of our division, coupled with her proven leadership abilities will guide our Division into the future. Tracy is ethical, committed, caring, and skilled, she will provide transformational leadership to support our students, staff, and families,” Wilson confidently expressed. “We are confident that with Tracy’s guidance we will continue to offer exceptional public education opportunities to our community,” said Chair Wilson.

Hensel will continue in her current role as Acting Superintendent until the official appointment takes effect on January 1, 2025.
