Welcoming New Directors to the MHPSD Leadership Team

Carla Carrier, Director of Learning & Partnerships

This role will support the learning department, by enhancing our inclusive learning environments, and developing a system wide instructional model that aligns inclusive education, universal practices and effective instructional practices. Carla will work to design new program offerings and oversee division level partnerships.

Carla Carrier Background: Carla began her teaching career in 1998 in Calgary. There she taught at Ian Bazalgette Junior High School. She moved home to Medicine Hat in 2008, and worked at Medicine Hat High School until 2013, serving as a teacher, guidance counselor and department head. In 2015 she transitioned to Medicine Hat Public School Division’s central office as a student services consultant and then as a director of student services. In 2017 Carla helped open Dr. Ken Sauer School as vice principal. She transitioned to the role of principal in June 2019.

Carla holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary and a Master of Education degree from The University of Lethbridge.

Carla is a dedicated and proactive instructional leader with a strong commitment to continuous improvement, inclusive school cultures, and restorative practice. We are grateful to have Carla join our MHPSD senior leadership team.

Cody Edwards, Director of Student Programming

This role will the support work of the student services department in achieving the goals laid out in our MHPSD Education Plan. He will provide direction with the provision of a continuum of supports, services, and strategies for each and every student.

Dr. Cody Edwards background: Cody started his teaching career at Crescent Heights High School in 2001. From there, he transitioned to vice principal at George Davison School in 2007, where he remained until 2012. Cody has served as principal of Vincent Massey School (2012-2016), Crestwood School (2016-2022) and Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre (since September 2022).

Cody holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge and a Masters from the University of Calgary. In 2020, Cody earned his Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Gonzaga.

Cody is a steady and thoughtful leader who has demonstrated great skill in building lasting and productive relationships with students, staff and the communities he had served. Cody possesses a work ethic and level of commitment to the goals of our system that are second to none. We are grateful to have Cody join our MHPSD senior leadership team.
